When working on or around any piece of machinery, steps need to be taken to ensure that the work can be performed safely. An important
step to ensuring a safe work environment is to isolate energy sources which could cause harm. Typically, people tend to think of only electrical energy, and the lockout procedures that usually go with it. There are other types of potential energy that should be guarded against, specifically, suspended loads such as the tilting table available for use with saws.
Instructions for blocking
- Find or cut a 4 by 4 timber or similar to a maximum of 60 inches in length
- Lift the table until the distance between the rear support post top and the bearing ring stop is about 39”
- Place the timber between the rear support post and the inner bearing ring of the tabletop as shown in the photos below
- Lower the table onto the timber, to take the weight off the cylinder
- Be careful not to force the table onto the timber – just lower the table until it’s snug and can’t be bumped out of position
- Repeat the process in reverse to remove the blocking
